Hi, I’m Matt Robinson—dad, coach, cook, and the guy behind Real Food by Dad. Welcome to my kitchen, where fast, fresh, family meals are the name of the game.
Real Food, Real Life
I started this blog in 2014 as a way to bring sanity (and good food) to our family’s hectic schedule. Between baseball games, school drop-offs, and work deadlines, I found that cooking at home didn’t need to be fancy—it just needed to be doable.
That’s where Real Food by Dad was born: one of the original dad food blogs focused on real meals for real life. Think: 30-minute dinners, upgraded school lunches, and better-for-you twists on the stuff kids (and grownups) actually want to eat.
What You’ll Find Here
- Quick and reliable recipes made with real ingredients—no fluff, no fads.
 - Step-by-step instructions tested in our home kitchen, often with the help of our three boys.
 - Tips from experience, not culinary school. I’m a self-taught home cook who’s made thousands of meals for a hungry crew.

From the Field to the Kitchen
As a longtime youth sports coach and dad to three boys, I know what it’s like to cook after a long day. That’s why every recipe here is designed to be:
- Efficient: Minimal prep, pantry-friendly ingredients
 - Kid-approved: Tested by picky eaters
 - Budget-conscious: Big flavor without breaking the bank

Why You Can Trust What You See Here
I’ve been doing this for over a decade—writing, testing, and sharing recipes that actually work. I’m not a trained chef, but I’ve cooked thousands of meals with my own hands and seen firsthand what busy families need.
Behind the scenes, I’m supported by my wife Naomi (the real MVP), who helps with photography, content planning, and running the business side of things. Together, we’ve built this into a trusted dad blog where recipes are grounded in everyday experience and made for real-world kitchens.
